Help a brother out

I got this email in my inbox today:

Rob in Cincinnati writes:

I'm a Bengals fan from Cincinnati, who also roots for the Colts and despises the Patriots. Anyway, I'm bringing a huge Colts fan to the game against the Patriots game this Sunday, and I've been trying to look up things to do before the game. I've been searching to find a few ideas.

I don't think we are going to do the whole tailgating thing but were looking for a restaurant/sports bar we could watch some football in before heading to the game. Is there anything within walking distance of the stadium, anyplace you'd recommend?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to send an email asking for tips but I can't find much more info anywhere else.
Thanks

GO COLTS

We'll forgive the whole "Bengals fan" thing, because there isn't much of a rivalry there (except for week 4 of every preseason).  Besides, as everyone knows, I'm generally down with the 'Nati.  As long as Rob and company are wearing blue on Sunday night, that's all that matters.

I gave Rob some ideas, but seeing as how I haven't exactly 'been in town' in the past year, I figured it would be a good idea to open the floor to suggestions.  The great part about downtown Indy is that there is lots to do. If you have a good hangout spot or idea in Downtown, leave a comment.  Rob will be checking them.

Support your local economy, people, and help a brother out.

I would suggest Buffalo Wild Wings.

It's a restaurant with great food, a bar (if you're into that stuff), around 20 TV's tuned to 4 or 5 games, and a great atmosphere. They'll let you stay as long as you want as long as you eat something there. It can get a little busy, but it's worth it. There should be one within easy walking distance of the Luke.

1) The downtown BW3s for the reason's Cass mentioned above. OR

2) Andrus O'Reilly's Irish Pub. It's on Pennsylvania just a couple blocks away from the Luke. Doesn't usually get too crowded, food is good, just a great place all-around. Oh, and both of these places have buzztime trivia; which is a must if you're a nerd like me :-)
Why are you guys recommending chains?

Especially when there are fine local establishments to enjoy? There's Ale Emporium in Castleton, Blue Crew Grill (I think that's in Fischers, right?), The Slippery Noodle, and a whole lot more.

In fairness, he wanted a place within walking distance of the stadium. Some of those places are awesome, but not exactly close.

Slippery Noodle (http://www.slipperynoodle.com/index2.cfm) is only a short walk away, though (Google their address and look on the map. It's close).

Scotty's Brewhouse is a pretty awesome place. Great atmosphere for football and a lot of food selection, although the price is just a little high. It's just a couple blocks north of the fieldhouse so it's within easy walking distance.

Rock Bottom on Washington just east of Illinois would be my choice. I go there before 1 pm games all the time. I'm sure they'll have some specials before the night game as well. My second choice would be Scotty's.

Couldn't you at least get the name of my hometown right? It's Fishers, man.
Worthwhile suggestion

wow, the above posts are not really helpful at all.

As noted above, the Slippery Noodle is within walking distance and is a great unique Indianapolis joint - it is a blues bar normally, but I've never been there on gameday.

I would suggest Spencer's stadium tavern - it is just South of the Luke and is a fantastic bar. Good food, great atmosphere on gameday, and a fantastic beer selection. Make sure and try Sun King Brewery's beers - it is a new, and damn good, local brewery.

If you're willing to walk a bit to downtown, the BW3's here is quite unlike other BW3's I've been to. One of the GM's there is a major beergeek and they have easily the best craft beer selection of any BW3's in the country. Scotty's is an Indiana college-town chain that has great food and (again) good beer. It is an upscale sports bar: towels for napkins, tv's in the booths, etc.

Go to St. Elmo's and order the shrimp cocktail. It really is AMAZING. Mike and Izzy's is a bit lower rent and has the same shrimp cocktail. I believe it's on Illinois St. and is about a 5 min walk to the stadium. The steaks are ok, but the atmosphere, especially in the bar is outstanding.

Wherever you go, get there early. It'll be packed downtown on Sunday.
