DVOA is the metric used by the footballoutsiders to compare value on a play by play basis. It stands for Defense-adjusted Value Over Average, and it basically tells you how much better (positive %) or worse (negative %) a player performs than what the average is on any given play.

Go to footballoutsiders.com and explore around a bit. It's an incredible site. - DZ

Yea I'm really looking forward to seeing Addai carry the running game by himself. I have become a big Don Brown fan over the past couple months, but some of his success has got to be because he's coming off the bench, right? He's always fresh. This two back system doesn't work if one of the backs can't run, so here's to hoping Addai finds his stride tomorrow.

And since I've been coming to this blog I've seen DZ mention this DVOA stat a few times. I've never heard of this stat before and I haven't been able to find it on ESPN or Pro Football Reference. What exactly is it measuring? - 35er
